JLTA Purpose and
Description:
|
|
|
In the ministry of Royal Rangers, boys have been striving to achieve all
that is held high in terms of standards, growth, and honors. For years
they have purposed to attain one advancement to the next but only if
there is a “next” challenge. Some of these boys achieve the highest
award a boy can receive, the Gold Medal of Achievement. But often times
after receiving this award, there are no challenges in Royal Rangers for
these boys to work to overcome. It’s not long before they are no longer
actively involved in Royal Rangers and sometimes not involved in their
church at all.
Many
of these young men are between the ages of 16 and 21; a time in their
lives when they have a need to devote themselves completely and begin to
fully develop their leadership skills. As a result, young men with as
many as ten years of training in the church begin to slip away from the
church. Years later, one or two of these young men may reappear in the
church and perhaps become involved as a leader in the church, sometimes
in Royal Rangers as a commander. What happened to all those young men?
What happened to all those Gold Medalists? What could have been
accomplished during those years when the same young men wanted to do
more in the Royal Rangers ministry?
The Junior Leadership Training Academy (JLTA) is one of the several
options to help answer these
questions. It is held once a year with several camps taking place that
will give boys intense, professional training along with powerful
spiritual ministry. This training experience is designed to be a
catalyst and springboard of spiritual encouragement.
The goal of the JLTA is to prepare young men for a gradual, ever
increasing role of leadership in their local outpost. By itself, the
JLTA cannot accomplish this. It takes a local outpost with the vision to
provide a place of ministry for these older Rangers. More importantly,
it is an active outpost that continues to give the sense of belonging
with a highly skilled group of Rangers. The inspiration and training the
Ranger brings back to his outpost is a source of rich ministry and
edification to other boys in the outpost.
It
is typical that a young man will experience a deeper, more meaningful
relationship with Jesus Christ during his training at the Academy. He
will learn things about himself and what he needs to do in order to
follow the Lord’s will for his life. That high sense of spiritual
awareness will become infectious to his outpost. The entire outpost will
desire to have the same experience; to learn, to advance, and to respond
to the challenge of the JLTA. In short, through the JLTA, boys are
learning the importance of assuming their role of leadership within
their church, thus training boys to become leaders! |

JLTA Overview: |
|
The JLTA has proven to be a very beneficial program at
the district level and has now been standardized nationwide. The goal is
to set minimum standards for all the camps and standardize training
materials, so that boys across the country are receiving the same
top-notch training no matter which district they receive JLTA training.
More information will later be provided in this page, but many training
camp opportunities are available for all boys.
Pre-Academy Camps Include:

|
JLTA Minimum
Graduation Requirements: |
For a boy to graduate from the JLTA, he must attend and complete four of
the following camps. These camps are in development and should all be
available in March, 2004.
A total of four camps must be completed, with JTC and AJTC being
prerequisites to completing any of the additional camps. Trainees should
have the opportunity to choose any two of the optional camps after
completing JTC and AJTC in order to graduate from the JLTA. Upon
completion the boy will earn the Leadership Medal. (He must also
complete 25 Spirit Challenge Lessons in order to be eligible.) The
district may choose which of the optional camps to hold.
*Boys completing a fifth camp will be eligible to wear the JLTA sabre.
Consult with your district to determine if the sabre is used. |

Graduate Camps |
The goal of any trainee would be to one day be a JLTA graduate. The
following camps for JLTA graduates are in development and will be
available in March, 2005.
|
 |
Elite JLC - JLTA graduates who have completed
10th grade can attend this camp which will focus upon instruction
reinforced by activity and leadership roles performed in a variety
of opportunities. |
|
 |
Junior Academy - JLTA graduates and men
desiring to serve on staff at a JLTA camp can attend this camp. Each
boy and leader will be taught responsibilities and skills needed to
properly run a district junior training camp. Trainees will be given
opportunities to solve problems through scenarios, assignments, and
teamwork. |
